Top Albums 2009

A popular pick all around the web, there's not really much left for me to say. Plus, I'm pretty sure I've already annoyed everyone I know with my constant swooning over it.
Useful Chamber
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ FREE MP3 - STILLNESS IS THE MOVE ]]
Folk album of the year. Cheerful, catchy, energetic. A musically diverse harmony of many instruments; with voices smooth as butter, yet powerful as dynamite. Beautiful!
Donny and Johnny
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ FREE MP3 - OH, DEATH ]]
2009's Oracular Spectacular. More or less. Maybe a bit more electro-ey. And a bit more upbeat. Utterly fantastic electropop, at the very least.
Greens, Grays And Nordics
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ 2 FREE MP3s ]]
Orchestral and epic, and yet still very much catchy and pop-like. Beautiful lyrics and music that ranges from electronic to celtic styles without ever sounding fragmented.
Who Will?
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ FREE MP3 - VULTURE ]]
People on Last.fm complained about Johnny Marr "having ruined The Cribs". Whatever he did, this album got me into them. Fantastic Brit-Rock.
We Share The Same Skies
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ FREE MP3 - WE WERE ABORTED ]]
Everyone else's favourite album of 2009. It's great, definitely. While I instantly liked it, it took some time for me to prefer it to Strawberry Jam though.
Guy's Eyes
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ FREE MP3 - MY GIRLS ]]
Another fantastic and diverse folk album. From the cheerful and amusing love song Home to the ominous and chant-like Kisses Over Bablyon, it's great throughout.
Kisses Over Babylon
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ 2 FREE MP3s ]]
Stylistically a very big change (from post-hardcore to sing-along folk). The fans, oh how they raged. I still liked it though. Other people did as well. You should too.
Bullet To Binary (Pt Two)
[[ MYSPACE ]]
A more rock-like direction than on their previous releases, this one was a bit of a grower. Definitely a worthy successor though, and a great ending to the band's career.
Pirate Blues
[[ MYSPACE ]]
Less rock-ey than their previous album. The fans were pleased. Two of the songs are from last year's EP, but they're some of the band's best songs and complete the album nicely.
Inside Our Skin
[[ MYSPACE ]]
Ugliest cover art I've seen in a long time. Some more fantastic electropop though and much better than Remedy. With time I may even end up liking it better than A Collision.
Oh, Happiness
[[ MYSPACE ]]
Not as good as their first two albums, though considering the epic masterpieces that they are this doesn't mean a lot. This is more gorgeous Spencer Krug magic.
Apollo And The Buffalo(...)
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ FREE MP3 - IDIOT HEART ]]
The only instrumental (minus two songs) album in this list. Beautiful, danceable soundscapes with a strong retro appeal, yet feeling fresh.
Big Love
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ FREE MP3 - MONOLITH ]]
According to my Last.fm charts this should be up way higher. This is a guilty pleasure album to be perfectly honest. Never thought I'd enjoy poppy techno music.
The Hospital
[[ MYSPACE ]]
Not only a great atmospheric and eery album, but also a great band image. Creative stage costumes, nice album covers and tons of amazing music videos.
When I Grow Up
[[ MYSPACE ]][[ FREE MP3 - KEEP THE STREETS(...) ]]

1. Fuck Buttons - Surf Solar
2. Switchfoot - Hello Hurricane
3. Oh Sleeper - Son of the Morning
4. Sleeping At Last - Storyboards
5. Stellastarr* - Civilized

- Look forward to part 2 of this soon, featuring FREE albums + EPs!

Thanks! Livejournal's rich text editor is actually quite powerful, I'm surprised myself at how well this worked. I basically just made a table with the size values set relative to the graphics I had made and then split/combined cells until I got the look I wanted.
